Kolkata, Sept. 20 -- In a major push toward absolute digitisation of crime tracking, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Kolkata, Ajay Nand, has issued a strict directive making the online uploading of all chargesheets onto the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) mandatory for every police station across the city.
According to sources, the move aims to eliminate a persistent digital backlog and enforce transparency. The CP pulled up several OCs for laxity in maintaining digital records. Apart from real-time uploading of current cases, police stations and the intelligence department have also been tasked with a massive clear-down of historical backlogs, retrieving old physical files to digitise them into the central system.
Senior officials stated that this transition will significantly streamline interstate crime tracking and offer quicker judicial processing, bringing Kolkata's law enforcement in line with national digital standards.
Apart from the CCTNS system utilisation, CP also issued strict directives about the cases related to missing persons. As per the instructions by Nand, the cops must take every missing complaint seriously irrespective of the victims' age. When a case of kidnapping of any minor is filed, utmost importance must be given and a prompt search must be initiated.
