NEW DELHI, May 17 -- Delhi Police has arrested a couple for allegedly stealing cash from a 60-year-old man while he was travelling in an e-rickshaw in West Delhi, officials said.

Police said the case came to light after a complaint was registered at Moti Nagar Police Station. The complainant, a resident of Kirti Nagar, alleged that he had hired an e-rickshaw from near the Jaguar showroom on Shivaji Marg in Moti Nagar to Fun Cinema Red Light on May 13 while carrying a small bag containing Rs 1 lakh in cash. After reaching his destination, he found that the bag had been slit open and the money was missing.

Following the complaint, an e-FIR was registered under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and an investigation was launched.

A special team led by SHO Inspector Sunil Kumar and the ACP of Punjabi Bagh Sub-Division analysed CCTV footage from the route taken by the complainant and identified the e-rickshaw allegedly used in the offence.

During the investigation, the accused, identified as 25-year-old Suresh and his wife, were apprehended through technical surveillance and sustained tracking efforts. Police said the couple allegedly targeted elderly passengers travelling in e-rickshaws and stole cash and valuables during transit without raising suspicion.

Officials said Rs 90,000 in stolen cash and the e-rickshaw used in the crime were recovered.
