Kolkata, Sept. 1 -- Kolkata Police rescued a six-month-old child within 24 hours of his alleged abduction in a coordinated midnight operation and arrested three suspects, including two women.
According to police, the incident occurred on August 30 near the Gariahat Flyover. The infant's mother, Ajmira Molla, was approached by a woman who befriended her on the pretext of helping her find domestic work. The woman later lured Molla and her baby into a taxi.
When the taxi reached Park Circus Seven Point Crossing, the suspect allegedly forced Molla to get down before fleeing with the infant.
Following a complaint at Beniapukur Police Station, police formed a team and began examining CCTV footage.
After scanning more than 60 cameras covering Gariahat, AJC Bose Road and the Maa Flyover, officers traced the taxi's route towards the EM Bypass and the Baruipur-Joynagar stretch.
Police tracked down and arrested the taxi driver using the vehicle's registration details. During interrogation, a woman identified as Bandana Roy, a footpath dweller in Gariahat, was also arrested.
Police subsequently learnt that the baby had been taken to a hideout in Bakultala, where another woman, Madhu Sheikh, was arrested early on Monday. The infant was rescued unhurt and later handed over to his mother.
