Cooch Behar, Oct. 6 -- A purported meeting involving a Cooch Behar district BJP committee member, Trinamool Congress leaders, Panchayat representatives and government officials at a private hotel has triggered a political controversy after a video of the gathering went viral on social media.

The video, which surfaced on Monday night, purportedly shows Subhasish Chowdhury, a member of the Cooch Behar district BJP committee, attending a meeting at a private hotel near Cooch Behar town. The gathering allegedly included Trinamool leaders, the head of Dewanhat village Panchayat and two government officials.

According to the video, members of another BJP group arrived at the venue during the meeting and questioned the purpose of the gathering. Tension reportedly followed, and the meeting was eventually disrupted. The two government officials present are also seen apologising in the video.

The incident has sparked discussions within political circles, with questions being raised over the purpose of the meeting and the presence of Trinamool leaders and government officials.

Chowdhury's response could not be obtained despite several attempts to contact him over the phone.

Cooch Behar district BJP president Abhijit Barman said the party would first verify the authenticity of the video before deciding on any action.

"I have also seen the video. The authenticity must first be verified and we need to know why the meeting was held. However, if anyone in the party is found involved in wrongdoing, action will be taken. No wrongdoing will be tolerated," Barman said.
