Cooch Behar, Oct. 8 -- After Jalpaiguri, tension surfaced in Cooch Behar over a students' protest against a teacher at a school. The incident took place on Thursday at Pani Gram High School under Nayarhat Gram Panchayat in Mathabhanga subdivision.

The teacher, Murtaza Al Amin, who teaches Bengali at the school, faced protests from a group of students shortly after he arrived on Thursday. The students raised several allegations against him, following which the situation reportedly turned tense. At one stage, his car was allegedly vandalised.

On receiving the information, police from the Nayarhat Outpost reached the school and brought the situation under control. The teacher was subsequently escorted from the premises by the police.

The protesting students alleged that the teacher was involved in activities they considered inappropriate and claimed that his conduct was tarnishing the reputation of the school. They said they felt uncomfortable identifying themselves with the school because of the allegations and demanded that the teacher be removed.

The students also made allegations regarding the teacher's alleged relationship with a female colleague. However, these allegations could not be independently verified.

Al Amin denied all the allegations. "I know why such protests are being held against me. Some rumours have been spread against me, and that is why the students have staged the protest," he said.

Attempts were made to contact the school principal for his response, but his statement could not be obtained. The incident has triggered tension in the area.
