Kolkata, Sept. 25 -- The West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee has objected to the proposed reservation of four KMC wards for women, alleging that the same geographical areas have been repeatedly reserved over successive civic elections without adequate rotation or publicly disclosed justification.

In a representation to KMC administrator and commissioner Smita Pandey, Congress leaders said Ward 17 (old 9) had been reserved for women in 2005, 2015, 2021 and the proposed 2026 polls. Ward 20 (old 18) and Ward 8 (old 6) were reserved in 2015, 2021 and 2026, while Ward 11 (old 3) was reserved in 2021 and the proposed 2026 election.

The leaders said they supported constitutional reservation for women but argued that reservation should be accompanied by equitable rotation among wards. They sought disclosure of the complete reservation roster, methodology and criteria, and a fresh review of the four proposed reservations.

Congress also urged authorities to consider objections before finalising the reservation list for the proposed 209 wards.
