Kolkata, Sept. 16 -- Officials of Justice Biswajit Basu's commission on Wednesday visited the West Bengal Wakf Board office as part of its ongoing inquiry into alleged institutional irregularities and financial misconduct.
The visit followed an earlier inspection of former Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim's office on Tollygunge Circular Road, where the panel found that the premises are located on Wakf property, prompting the visit to the board's office. The commission, headed by retired Calcutta High Court judge Justice Biswajit Basu, began its work in June and has been tasked with examining allegations of corruption, financial irregularities, misappropriation of public funds and administrative lapses in state government institutions.
At the Wakf Board office, officials examined records and sought details on the board's functioning, administration and various Wakf properties. They also questioned officials about financial transactions, property management and related administrative procedures.
Sources said the panel is examining documents and gathering information from various government departments and bodies as part of its wider inquiry. The visit comes amid increased scrutiny of the management of Wakf properties and related administrative issues in Bengal.
