Chandigarh, July 10 -- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday directed officials to install recharge wells in every park in Panchkula to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon and ensure that only treated water is used for irrigating parks.

Chairing the fourth meeting of the Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority (PMDA) in Chandigarh, which lasted for nearly three hours, the Chief Minister reviewed ongoing projects and approved future development plans for the city. Stating that the government's aim is to make Panchkula the number one city in Haryana, Saini asked officials to prepare a comprehensive, time-bound action plan to achieve the objective.

Reviewing the Multi-Feature Park project, officials informed the CM that around Rs 22 crore had already been spent on it. Taking serious note, Saini ordered an inquiry and sought a detailed report.

He directed officials to develop major parks with ornamental plantations, restored water bodies, fountains and adequate public toilet facilities. The Chief Minister also called for making Panchkula a slum-free city by identifying suitable land and preparing a project for high-rise residential apartments for eligible families.

Ahead of the monsoon, Saini directed immediate cleaning of sewer lines and drains and stressed that sanitation, sewerage, roads and drinking water supply should receive top priority. He also ordered the transfer of three Super Sucker machines from HSVP to the Municipal Corporation. He said Atal Park would be completed by November 30.
