India, April 29 -- A large group of women, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, took out a torch march in Connaught Place on Tuesday, protesting against opposition parties over the Women's Reservation Bill and holding a public awareness campaign on the issue. Women from diverse backgrounds, including doctors, teachers, advocates and homemakers, participated in the "Mashal Jaloos", which was organised to express support for the Nari Shakti Vandan Act introduced by the Centre and to criticise opposition parties for allegedly attempting to stall it. Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched a sharp attack on opposition leaders, saying, "The opposition cannot see beyond the women of their own families, due to which an ordinary woman can neither contest elections nor reach the Lok Sabha." She added, "The way the opposition has, on one pretext or another, violated women's rights, the anger in the hearts of women across the country has now come out from homes onto the streets." Gupta also said that the Women's Reservation Bill had been introduced multiple times in Parliament over the years but was repeatedly blocked.
