Chandigarh, Oct. 28 -- Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday announced that the next instalment under the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna would be transferred on November 1, saying the initiative aimed to return public money directly to people.
Addressing a Lok Milni programme at Sarinh village in Jalandhar district's Nakodar constituency, Mann said his government was committed to women's welfare and economic empowerment. He accused previous governments of misusing public funds and alleged that opposition parties were threatening to discontinue welfare schemes.
Mann said his government had provided 70,862 government jobs on merit in over four-and-a-half years. He also highlighted improvements in education, healthcare, electricity supply and irrigation, claiming that children from economically weaker families were now clearing competitive examinations.
He said 882 government school students qualified for NEET, compared with 80 in 2021, while nearly 90 per cent of households benefited from free electricity. Around 54 lakh families had received health cards under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, he added. The chief minister said the government had laid around 14,000 kilometres of irrigation pipelines to improve water access for farmers.
Targeting the BJP, Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal, Mann accused opposition parties of prioritising political interests over public welfare. He alleged that the Congress and BJP were working together to dislodge him from office.
Mann said that his government would continue focusing on women's empowerment, employment, education, healthcare and farmers' needs.
