New Delhi, Sept. 27 -- Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday laid the foundation stones for 53 development projects worth Rs.214.12 crore in unauthorised colonies across Kirari, Bawana, Mundka, Narela and Nangloi Jat Assembly constituencies. The projects are expected to benefit around 1.75 lakh residents and focus on roads, lanes and drainage infrastructure.
Under the projects, 1,062 roads and lanes across 27 unauthorised colonies will be developed. The works include around 89.82 km of road network and 147.69 km of drainage network, with the government stating that the infrastructure is aimed at improving local connectivity and addressing waterlogging.
Kirari will account for the largest share, with 27 works in 14 unauthorised colonies at a cost of Rs.105.51 crore. The projects cover 640 roads and lanes, 50.71 km of roads and 101.42 km of drainage network. Bawana will see nine works worth Rs.38.83 crore, while five works worth Rs.22.05 crore have been earmarked for Mundka. Narela will get four projects worth Rs.14.48 crore and Nangloi Jat eight works worth Rs.33.25 crore.
Speaking at the event, Gupta said the government was focusing on areas that had faced infrastructure-related problems for a long time.
"The Delhi Government's objective is to strengthen basic civic amenities in every part of the city," she said.
She added that roads, drains, sewerage and drainage were "basic rights of every citizen" and said development would be taken to "every lane and every area of Delhi".
PWD and Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said the government's development drive would extend beyond major roads. "The pace of development will not remain confined to the main roads, but will reach every lane and every household in unauthorised colonies," he said.
Social Welfare Minister Ravindra Indraj Singh said there would be no discrimination in development works or budget allocation among Assembly constituencies. He said Rs.105 crore had been made available for development works in Kirari.
The foundation-laying programme was held as part of the Delhi government's Seva Sankalp campaign. The Chief Minister also listened to the 138th episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mann Ki Baat with citizens and public representatives
