Kolkata, Sept. 21 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will meet the Ambanis on Tuesday after being invited to Mumbai to attend the Ganesh Utsav at their residence.
However, his flight to Mumbai on Monday is also being seen as part of the state government's renewed push to attract major corporate investments. Sources said a meeting with Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani is likely to include discussions on investment opportunities in West Bengal.
Adhikari had earlier sought a major investment from the Ambanis, viewing it as a potential game-changer for Bengal's industrial sector after the BJP came to power in the state.
The meeting during his Mumbai visit is therefore expected to focus on investment prospects and could yield positive outcomes for Bengal, sources said.
The proposed meeting is likely to centre on expanding the Ambani group's existing business presence in Bengal and exploring fresh investment opportunities.
Sources said Adhikari was invited by the Ambanis to attend the Ganesh Utsav at their residence. During his visit, he is also expected to hold talks with junior Ambani.
The outreach comes as the state government seeks to move beyond attracting new investors and encourage large companies already operating in Bengal to scale up their investments, officials said.
The government is expected to offer facilitation and policy support for projects that bring capital, industrial expansion and employment.
"Engagement with major industrial groups is important when the objective is to attract fresh investment and expand existing business operations. The government will extend all possible support for proposals that bring investment and employment to the state," a senior official said.
He said the CM is also expected to hold talks with the Adani Group, with its chairman, Gautam Adani, scheduled to visit the city on Thursday and likely to visit Writers' Buildings as well.
