Raiganj, Oct. 12 -- A Class X girl died after allegedly consuming poison following a reported sexual assault by two youths in North Dinajpur district. The girl's mother lodged a complaint against the accused, identified as Lakkhan Das and Bikash Das, who are reportedly absconding after the incident.
According to local sources, the girl's father died several years ago and she lived with her mother. The two accused had allegedly been harassing her while she returned from school for about a month.
On Saturday afternoon, the girl was reportedly sexually assaulted while returning home from tuition and the accused reportedly threatened to kill her. After reaching home, she consumed poison and was immediately taken to Raiganj Government Medical College and Hospital, where she died on Sunday.
The victim's mother alleged that her daughter had identified the two youths and told her about the assault and threats. She demanded stringent punishment for those responsible.
A senior police officer at Raiganj Police Station confirmed that a complaint was received and said investigation had begun. Police are trying to trace the accused.
