New Delhi, Sept. 29 -- Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, 2.3 degrees below normal, marking the lowest minimum temperature recorded in the national capital in September since 2008, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
IMD data showed that the lowest minimum temperature recorded in September since 2001 was 20.8 degrees Celsius on September 6, 2008, followed by 21.1 degrees Celsius on September 19, 2024.
However, Delhi had recorded even lower minimum temperatures on September 29 and 30 in 2000, at 20.6 and 20.7 degrees Celsius respectively. These readings are excluded from the IMD's "since 2001" comparison. The city's primary weather station at Safdarjung had also recorded a minimum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius on Sunday, September 27.
Several other weather stations reported temperatures significantly below their respective normal levels. Palam recorded 19.7 degrees Celsius, 3.8 degrees below normal, while Lodi Road registered 20.4 degrees Celsius, 1.6 degrees below normal. The Ridge witnessed a minimum of 16.9 degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal, while Ayanagar recorded 20.6 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal.The maximum temperature in Delhi is likely to settle around 32 degrees
Celsius on Tuesday, with the IMD forecasting partly cloudy skies.
Light rainfall was also recorded at some stations. Up to 8:30 am, Palam received 1 mm of rainfall, while the Ridge and Ayanagar recorded 0.2 mm and 0.7 mm respectively. Safdarjung and Lodi Road recorded only trace rainfall.
Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality remained in the satisfactory category. The city recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 62 at 9 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
