Raiganj, Sept. 23 -- Marium Nesha, wife of Chopra MLA Hamidul Rahaman, along with the driver of the vehicle were injured when a group of miscreants allegedly attacked their vehicle with iron rods and other weapons near the BDO office in Chopra of North Dinajpur district on Wednesday evening. The car was damaged in the attack.
According to police, Marium Nesha sustained injuries on her leg, while the driver suffered an injury on his right hand. Police detained three persons suspected to be involved in the incident and have started an investigation. The attack triggered tension in the area.
Saha Alam, son of the MLA, said his mother was returning home with his four-year-old child when the attackers allegedly intercepted the vehicle. "They started pelting stones at the car and repeatedly hit it with iron rods.
Both my mother and the driver were injured. We immediately lodged a complaint with the police. If any political party is involved, it will come out during the police investigation," he said.
Chopra police station Inspector-in-Charge Keshab Baral said, "Three suspected persons have been detained and an investigation has been initiated." Hamidul Rahaman had won the Chopra Assembly seat in 2026 on an AITMC ticket and later joined the Ritabrata faction, now known as Democratic TMC, following the change of government in the state.
