Kolkata, Oct. 27 -- Chopra MLA Hamidul Rahman on Tuesday dismissed speculation over his political allegiance, reaffirming his loyalty to Mamata Banerjee and distancing himself from Ritabrata Banerjee's camp.
Speculation had grown over his political position following his absence from several party events after the Assembly polls. However, Rahman asserted that he had always remained loyal to Mamata Banerjee.
Explaining his earlier decision to sign in support of Ritabrata, Rahman claimed the legislators had been assured that they would remain with Mamata Banerjee. According to Rahman, Ritabrata had not disclosed any plan to form a separate party when the legislators signed the document. He alleged that they later discovered Ritabrata had formed a separate party and approached the court over the party symbol.
"I won the election on Mamata Banerjee's symbol. We consider her our leader. She is the party's high command," Rahman said. He denied campaigning for Ritabrata and urged workers to strengthen the organisation at the booth level ahead of the panchayat elections.
