Kolkata, Aug. 31 -- The Calcutta High Court has transferred to the CBI the investigation into a Rs 1.74 crore cyber fraud case lodged by Mihir Kumar Roy at the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station, citing its "pan-India ramifications".
Roy alleged that fraudsters impersonating officials of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, police and other government agencies induced him to transfer Rs 1,74,10,500 from his bank accounts under threat of arrest and other legal consequences.
He lodged the complaint at the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station, which registered a case on January 21, 2025. Roy sought a CBI probe, relying on a Supreme Court judgment concerning victims of "digital arrest". The CBI also submitted that it could investigate the case.
