Siliguri, July 27 -- Tourism Minister and Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh on Monday announced plans to introduce a cable car joyride at Surya Sen Park as part of an ambitious redevelopment project aimed at transforming one of the city's most popular recreational destinations.

The minister made the announcement while inspecting the progress of the Surya Sen Park and Mahananda River beautification projects. The representatives from Kolkata's Nicco Park also accompanied him during the visit to assess the feasibility of introducing new recreational facilities.

Speaking to the media, Ghosh said the redevelopment would include a cable car ride along with several other amusement attractions. The existing infrastructure of the park will also be upgraded to make it more visitor-friendly. Separate zones will be developed for children and senior citizens, allowing children to enjoy play areas while elderly visitors can spend time in a peaceful environment. A cafe is also planned within the park premises.

"The initiative would be carried out in compliance with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) guidelines and environmental regulations. Like the Sabarmati Riverfront in Gujarat, the state government aims to develop the riverfront of Mahananda while preserving the ecological balance and protecting the natural environment," Ghosh added.

He added that Nicco Park officials had been invited to inspect the site and provide technical inputs for the proposed attractions and overall development plan.
