India, Aug. 20 -- Anger over damaged roads, potholes, waterlogging and incomplete civic work continues to simmer in Burari, where residents have taken to the streets demanding a time-bound solution to problems they say have persisted for years. AAP MLA from Burari Sanjeev Jha, however, said the situation must be viewed in the context of a large infrastructure project being executed in phases. He said the road stretch is around 9 km long, with the project originally given an overall timeline of about 26 months. Work began in July 2023. According to Jha, the first phase, covering around 4 km, was completed by October 2024, with the road ready by November. The second phase, covering the remaining 5 km, began in March 2025 and was expected to take about 14 months. However, the project subsequently faced delays following the change of government and a delay in tender sanction. He blamed the worsening condition of the road on delays and alleged negligence by the PWD, saying the work should have progressed faster. The MLA also acknowledged residents' concerns, saying he travels on the same road every day and faces the problems himself. He said the current situation was a matter of concern and expressed hope that the pending work would be completed and residents would get relief within the next 2-3 months. Residents, meanwhile, continue to demand that authorities move beyond assurances and provide a clear timeline for restoring the roads and drainage system.
