
Kolkata, Aug. 30 -- In a major breakthrough against cross-border smuggling, the Border Security Force (BSF) detained a woman and seized a massive consignment of gold biscuits valued at nearly Rs 25 crore from near the India-Bangladesh border in Nadia district.
Acting on intelligence inputs regarding a smuggling attempt, BSF personnel from the South Bengal Frontier conducted a strategic raid in the Banpur area near the Indo-Bangla border. Following a prolonged vigil, troops spotted a suspicious woman attempting to cross the perimeter. Upon intercepting and searching her, security forces recovered a staggering 15.607 kg of gold hidden in her possession.
The apprehended woman was interrogated to uncover the wider network of operators, handlers, and recipients involved in this high-value smuggling racket.
The seized gold and the accused have been handed over to the Customs department.
