New Delhi, Oct. 10 -- West Bengal minister Ashok Kirtania has turned vlogger this Durga Puja, using a lapel microphone and a mobile phone camera to showcase the festival's cultural heritage and invite visitors to pandals in Bongaon in North 24-Parganas district.

Kirtania, the BJP MLA from Bongaon Uttar, was seen on social media on Saturday giving a virtual tour of the Durga Puja pandal of Gandhipalli Yuva Samaj Sporting Club, explaining its artwork and highlighting Bengal's rich artistic and cultural traditions.

According to reports, asked whether he had turned vlogger for the festival, the food and supply minister told reporters: "What's wrong in it?"

The club is celebrating its 78th Durga Puja this year, with its theme centred on the state's heritage, culture and art.

The exterior of the pandal features portraits of eminent Bengali personalities, including Swami Vivekananda, novelist and composer of 'Vande Mataram' Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, and matinee idol Uttam Kumar.

Kirtania said he was promoting the Puja out of an emotional attachment to the neighbourhood club, which is located near his residence.

The minister added that he would be willing to promote other Durga Pujas in the future if organisers invited him.
