Kolkata, Oct. 11 -- Tension gripped Sarat Chatterjee Road area after the body of a youth was recovered on Sunday morning, just about 150 metre away from Nabanna, the heavily fortified Bengal state secretariat.

The deceased has been identified as Anjan Chakraborty, alias Chhotka, a resident of the neighbourhood. According to sources, residents discovered the body around 11 am on the road nestled between two high-rise buildings along Sarat Chatterjee Road. The victim was found lying in a pool of blood with severe, deep wounds to his head. Adding a grim twist to the investigation, police recovered several iron nails scattered on the ground right next to the body.

Investigators suspect these nails may have been used as a weapon or played a direct role in inflicting the fatal head injuries.

Upon receiving the alert, a large contingent from the Chatterjeehat Police Station rushed to the spot. Officers cordoned off the area to secure forensic evidence and subsequently sent the body to a local hospital for post-mortem examination.

The discovery of a body so close to a VVIP administrative hub-which maintains round-the-clock security and intensive police surveillance-has raised serious questions and caused intense tension in the locality.

Police are currently scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding buildings to trace the victim's final movements and identify any potential suspects. Cops, however, are exploring all angles, including homicide and a fatal accident.
