
Siliguri, Sept. 15 -- The bodies of two Class X students who drowned while bathing in the Mahananda River were recovered from the Fulbari Mahananda Barrage area in Phansidewa on Tuesday morning.
A joint team of the NDRF and SDRF recovered the bodies from the river, around 200 metres from the barrage.
The deceased were identified as Pragya Jyoti Das, a resident of Malda, and Mohammad Safail Hossain, a resident of Bangladesh.
Both were staying at the hostel of a private English-medium school near Jatiakali, Fulbari, Siliguri.
According to police, the two students had gone to bath in the river with a third friend, Divyansh Saha, around 4 pm on September 13.
While Divyansh was rescued, Pragya and Nawsad were swept away by the current.
Following the recovery, Phansidewa police sent the bodies to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
