Kolkata, Aug. 17 -- West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya has issued a strong message to party MLAs that misuse of power or extortion will not be tolerated under any circumstances. "The party will not be affected even if 20-25 MLAs are expelled from the party," Bhattacharya asserted.
During a training camp at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Newtown on Sunday, Bhattacharya categorically stated that comprehensive performance and conduct reports of various legislators are being compiled in files.
Bhattacharya emphasised that detailed reports regarding the actions, conduct, and complaints against local leaders and MLAs are being actively tracked.
"BJP has come to power after so many sacrifices, and we will not make any misuse of power," Bhattacharya said in the camp. He told various MLAs that stern action will be taken against party MLAs if they are found involved in any unwarranted activities by using the name of the party. Action will be taken if any MLAs try to influence people to get any undue advantages.
The state party president said that complaints are being poured in against the public representatives from various parts. He also mentioned that complaints are being reported to the party against the MLAs from north Bengal to south Bengal. He alerted the MLAs that such complaints will not be taken lightly.
"MLAs should remember that they have commitments to the people and well as to the party. Some MLAs are going to measure flats with measuring tapes. Those who are committing mistakes should rectify themselves," he added. Bhattacharya also reminded that Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had also stated that even if 20 MLAs are driven out, it will have no major impact on the party.
To keep the party's image intact, the BJP will hesitate to take stern action, Bhattacharya reminded the MLAs. Amid rising complaints regarding extortion, cut-money culture, and misuse of the party's name, the state leadership made it clear that corrupt or undisciplined behavior will not be shielded. Bhattacharya has always given a strong message against corruption. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has often spoken about a zero-tolerance policy on corruption.
