India, Aug. 11 -- As part of the week-long celebrations leading up to India's 80th Independence Day, the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday organised a grand Tiranga Yatra through the streets of Old Delhi, led by Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra. The march began at Chandni Chowk Town Hall and concluded at Hauz Qazi, with thousands of party workers, school students and local residents participating. The route was decorated with tricolour flags and ceremonial arches, while several traders' and civic organisations welcomed the participants at different points along the procession. Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal also joined the march. "The Red Fort in Old Delhi is not merely made of bricks and stones; it is from here that the Prime Minister addresses the nation every August 15. The call for independence was announced from here, and every inch of Old Delhi is steeped in sacrifice and self-respect," he said. Highlighting the area's communal harmony, he added, "The identity of Old Delhi is its Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb. In Old Delhi, the sound of temple bells and the azaan from mosques resonate together... this unity represents the true spirit of our national Tricolour." He urged people to strengthen the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign and uphold the honour of the national flag. "The Tricolour is a symbol of our honour, pride and glory, and Independence Day reminds us of the martyrs who sacrificed everything for the nation," he said, appealing to citizens to make the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign a success before August 15 and promote unity and brotherhood. Several BJP leaders, municipal councillors and district office-bearers also participated in the yatra, which was coordinated by Chandni Chowk district president Arvind Garg. The event formed part of the party's outreach programmes ahead of Independence Day celebrations.
