Kolkata, July 27 -- Internal conflicts within the BJP have reportedly intensified across several districts of West Bengal, with factional clashes and allegations involving leaders from rival camps emerging in multiple areas.
In Taki, North 24-Parganas, BJP leader Paritosh Haldar has lodged a written complaint against former Trinamool Congress leader and current BJP leader Priyanka Banerjee over alleged violence and vote rigging during the 2015 Taki municipal elections.
Haldar, who was the BJP candidate at the time, alleged that his polling agents were assaulted and driven out of polling booths on April 26, 2015, while he was allegedly forced away from a polling station at gunpoint. The complaint also names Taki Municipality councillors Chinmoy Mondal, Pradyut Das and Nishi Das, among others.
BJP workers supporting Haldar staged a protest outside Hasnabad Police Station on Monday, demanding action against those facing allegations irrespective of their current political affiliations.
Meanwhile, Panihati in North 24-Pargana witnessed a fierce clash between rival BJP camps on Saturday, with incidents of assault, protests and police action continuing from the afternoon till midnight. Local BJP worker Pintu Sheikh was allegedly assaulted near the Bengal Chemical factory on BT Road. Subsequently, Badal Das, Sujoy Biswas and Anish Chakraborty, who are also BJP local leaders and workers, were detained by police following a complaint, prompting protests outside Khardah police station. They were released later.
