Cooch Behar, Oct. 28 -- Tension gripped the Baro Moricha area of Sitalkuchi in Cooch Behar district following a clash between two BJP factions over a mediation meeting. Several people from both sides were reportedly injured, including BJP Minority Morcha district secretary Rezzak Hossain, who sustained a head injury.
Hossain was initially taken to Sitalkuchi Primary Health Centre before being shifted to MJN Medical College and Hospital in Cooch Behar. He is currently undergoing treatment. The incident has triggered allegations against BJP Shakti Pramukh Khorshed Alam, who has denied the charges. Mousumi Khatun, Hossain's wife, alleged that Alam's supporters attacked them after learning that some people were coming to their house.
She further claimed that several people, including Hossain, were called to the party office in the name of a mediation meeting and assaulted.
Alam, however, rejected the allegations and offered a different account. He said that discussions on various issues had been taking place among some BJP-associated individuals since May 4. On Wednesday, a discussion was underway regarding roadwork. According to Alam, when the group was told that the meeting could not be held at the house, Hossain and his supporters allegedly attempted to attack the party office.
A clash broke out when they were stopped, he claimed. Tension continues to prevail in the area. Both factions have stated that they will lodge written complaints against each other at Sitalkuchi
Police Station.
