Kolkata, Sept. 27 -- "Government will run as government; organisation must stand on its own feet," BJP national president Nitin Nabin told party leaders during his first organisational visit to West Bengal after the formation of the full-fledged state committee, underlining the need for the government and party organisation to function independently while maintaining coordination.

Nabin arrived in Kolkata on Sunday for a two-day visit and held a series of meetings with state office-bearers, district presidents and in-charges, frontal organisations, MPs, MLAs, ministers and members of the state core committee.

He also joined state leaders and party workers at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat'.

At the organisational meeting, Nabin is learnt to have cautioned leaders against allowing the BJP's organisational functioning to become dependent on its position in government. According to party sources, he said the government's administrative machinery and the party organisation had different roles and should function in coordination, without one substituting for the other.

Nabin stressed that the government's work over the past few months must reach people through the organisation. Elected representatives were also asked to maintain regular grassroots contact and remain accessible to people. Sources said MLAs were told to keep track of their daily public interactions, with the next 150 days being viewed as crucial for strengthening the organisational network.

Nabin also reportedly asked leaders to work with humility amid complaints from some areas about high-handed behaviour and friction between elected representatives and organisational functionaries. Maintaining dignity while dealing with people and strengthening the organisation through its own skills and outreach were recurring themes.

The emphasis on coordination comes after the BJP's recent organisational reshuffle, which included changes in seven organisational districts and new leadership for its women's and youth wings.

According to party sources, coordination between the government and organisation also figured in the core committee deliberations. With the BJP looking ahead to municipal and panchayat polls, booth-level organisation, public outreach and coordination between ministers, MLAs and party workers have emerged as key priorities.
