New Delhi, Oct. 27 -- The BJP and the Congress traded barbs on social media on Tuesday over Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's controversial remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with both parties sharing videos, graphics and AI-generated content to target each other.
Kharge triggered a row at an event in Patna on Sunday to mark the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar's first chief minister, Shrikrishna Singh, when he said "Modi ka baap bhi jayega" in response to an audience member saying the prime minister would not go anywhere.
The BJP responded with posts carrying the hashtag #ModiKahiNahiJayega, asserting that Modi enjoyed public support and would remain in office.
In another graphic targeting Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, it said Modi had been elected prime minister for a third time.
The party also shared videos of protests held across the country on Monday, with BJP leaders and workers demanding an apology from Kharge and Gandhi. Another video accused the Congress of questioning electronic voting machines (EVMs), the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls after electoral defeats.
Citing elections between 1977 and 2019, as well as the 2022 Gujarat polls, the BJP argued that the Congress had lost elections even when SIR was not an issue. It accused the Opposition of blaming institutions instead of accepting results.
The Congress hit back through social media posts and AI-generated content. The Maharashtra Congress shared a cartoon featuring industrialist Gautam Adani, US President Donald Trump and Kharge, asking users to guess whom the Congress chief had referred to in his remark.
Another post depicted Modi dancing while Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu applauded, accompanied by the caption "Modi Israel Kyu Jayega?" and an AI-generated label.
The Congress also shared a video of Gandhi accusing Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of involvement in alleged "vote chori". Gandhi claimed they would eventually be held accountable.
In another post, the party shared Kharge's remarks accusing governments in West Bengal, Haryana, Bihar and Maharashtra of electoral theft and promising action against those responsible.
