Patna, Sept. 1 -- Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat after the Centre approved the establishment of a new National School of Drama (NSD) campus in the state.
Choudhary said the initiative would give Bihar's rich theatre and performing arts traditions greater national recognition while creating new opportunities for young artists.
He said Bihar has a distinctive cultural heritage associated with personalities such as Kalidasa, Ramvriksha Benipuri and Bhikhari Thakur, besides a strong tradition of folk theatre.
The NSD campus, he said, would provide aspiring artists access to professional training in theatre, stagecraft and performing arts, as well as advanced research facilities. It would also reduce the need for artists to travel outside the state for specialised training and help integrate traditional folk theatre with contemporary practices.
The state has already established the Bihar Sangeet Natak Akademi to preserve and promote theatre and performing arts. Choudhary said the government would provide suitable land for the NSD campus and bear 50 per cent of the approved construction cost.
