India, Aug. 14 -- Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday announced a government job for one family member of Bharat Tiwary, who was allegedly killed in a police encounter in Bhojpur district on June 17. Choudhary said the government would also provide financial assistance to Tiwary's family based on the interim report of a judicial inquiry into the incident. Tiwary's death triggered a row, with his family alleging that he had surrendered and discarded his weapon before police opened fire. They also cited purported social media videos showing him unarmed. Police, however, claimed Tiwary opened fire with an illegal firearm when officers attempted to arrest him, forcing them to retaliate in self-defence. He was injured and later died during treatment.
