Malda, Sept. 17 -- Amid the devastation left by the floods in Malda's Bhutni, a mother and her newborn baby boy have become a poignant symbol of life, hope and human compassion.
Around 10 days ago, Tukumoni Devi, a pregnant woman from the flood-affected Bhutni area, was rescued by the Malda district administration and admitted to Manikchak Block Primary Health Centre. Four days ago, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
As floodwaters began to recede, Tukumoni expressed her wish to return home with her newborn. Responding to her request, the district administration arranged for a special boat to ensure their safe journey back.
A Civil Defence volunteer accompanied the family, holding an umbrella to protect the mother and baby. The administration also provided adequate rations and baby diapers for the journey. In a touching gesture, Additional District Magistrate (Health) Anirudha Nandi personally held an umbrella over the mother and newborn during the boat ride.
District Magistrate Rajanvir Singh Kapur said: "The Malda District Administration stands with every flood-affected citizen. We are taking all necessary measures for rescue, healthcare, relief and rehabilitation."
