Kolkata, Sept. 22 -- Tension over Monday's clash at Bhangar Mahavidyalaya spilled over to the Baruipur district court on Tuesday as SFI and ABVP supporters staged protests and raised counter-slogans during the production of two arrested SFI activists. Police and central forces were deployed at the court premises.
Four people have been arrested in connection with the clash, including two SFI activists booked in the ABVP case. The two SFI activists were granted bail by the judge on bonds of Rs 1,000 each.
During the production, supporters of both groups gathered at the court and raised counter-slogans, leading to confrontations. At one point, protesters and security personnel were involved in pushing and shoving as police and central forces tried to keep the groups apart.
CPI(M) leader and lawyer Sayan Banerjee, who represented the two SFI activists, alleged that lawyers were targeted with bricks and eggs inside the court premises.
"This is a court premises. We are standing here wearing black coats and have come here to fight cases according to the Constitution. What is happening here is unacceptable," Banerjee said.
