Kolkata, Oct. 29 -- The Urban Development and Municipal Affairs department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NITCON Limited, a Government of India undertaking, to focus on infrastructure development and civic management.
The project prioritises easing traffic congestion and addressing parking shortages. The initiative targets the holistic development of Kolkata and surrounding municipal areas. Initial work will begin within the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) areas. This includes enhancing urban landscapes like parks, dividers, lakes, and heritage sites.
The project also aims to ease traffic congestion and address parking shortages in heavily crowded cities like Kolkata, Bidhannagar, Howrah, and Siliguri through dedicated demarcated parking zones and modern multi-level parking spaces.
Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul said: "It is a matter of great happiness for our department that NITCON has signed an MoU with our department for the beautification of the city, including dividers, lakes, parks and heritage sites."
