New Delhi, Sept. 5 -- West Bengal's revenue collection rose by around 18 per cent in the first three months of the BJP government, indicating a sustained improvement that officials attribute to tighter monitoring and efforts to plug revenue leakage.
The first signs emerged within a month of the change in government, when the state collected around Rs 1,000 crore more than during the corresponding period last year. CM Suvendu Adhikari has highlighted cases such as that of Tulu Mondal, who allegedly duped the treasury using duplicate challans and amassed assets worth over Rs 250 crore. The administration is now intensifying scrutiny of revenue collection, particularly in mining, transport and traffic sectors, while targeting tax evasion and loopholes. Officials said the focus was on improving compliance and collection efficiency rather than raising the tax burden.
