Kolkata, Aug. 31 -- West Bengal Governor and Chancellor RN Ravi on Monday questioned the six-year gap between convocations at Diamond Harbour Women's University, saying students had a legitimate expectation of receiving their degrees "with dignity on time". He also raised concerns over inadequate infrastructure and teaching resources at universities across the state.
Addressing the university's third convocation, Ravi said it was unacceptable that the institution, established around 13 years ago, was holding only its third convocation after such a long gap. Its first two convocations were held in 2018 and 2019. He said several other state universities had similarly gone years without convocations.
Ravi stressed the need for adequate physical infrastructure and teaching-learning resources to ensure quality education, warning that students graduating without receiving proper education could face difficulties in the job market. He also pointed to the absence of a proper hall at the university for holding convocations.
