Kolkata, Sept. 22 -- The state School Education Department has directed all District Inspectors of Schools (Primary Education) to take prompt action against cases of unauthorised absence of primary school teachers, either by sanctioning leave as per rules or initiating disciplinary proceedings.
The move is aimed at ensuring regular attendance of teachers in government primary schools and strengthening work culture, according to the department.
The directive, issued by School Education Commissioner Nikhil Nirmal on September 21, asks district officials to examine all pending leave applications involving unauthorised absence and cases of unsettled unauthorised absence and take prompt decisions based on the facts and merits of each case.
According to the directive, if the circumstances justify the absence, the leave may be sanctioned in accordance with the rules. In other cases, disciplinary proceedings may be initiated against the teacher.
The district inspectors have been asked to submit a compliance report to the Commissioner of School Education within 30 days.
