Kolkata, May 11 -- The new BJP government in West Bengal on Monday announced a five-year relaxation in the upper age limit for government job applicants, a decision taken at its first Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

Adhikari said the move aims to benefit candidates deprived of recruitment opportunities since 2015. He also announced that the next Cabinet meeting on May 18 will discuss key issues, including Dearness Allowance, the Seventh Pay Commission, women's safety, institutional corruption and the RG Kar case, raising expectations among state government employees over pending pay-related demands.
