
Kolkata, May 14 -- The BJP government in West Bengal has made singing of Vande Mataram mandatory in all state-run and state-aided schools from May 18, 2026. The directive was issued by the School Education Department on May 14.
According to the order, Vande Mataram must be sung during morning assembly prayers before classes begin, and all students are required to participate. Heads of institutions have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the instruction.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said the song would be introduced as the prayer song in schools across the state from next Monday.
