Raiganj, Sept. 13 -- A Bangladeshi national was killed in BSF firing and two others were arrested while allegedly attempting to enter India through the border fencing at Shibanandapur Border Out Post under Radhikapur, North Dinajpur district on Saturday.

In another incident, a Bangladeshi national who had been staying in the Porajhar area of Siliguri for a long time was arrested by New Jalpaiguri Police while allegedly trying to cross the India-Bangladesh border using forged documents. The arrested persons have been produced to court

on Sunday.

The deceased, in the North Dinajpur case, was identified as Mahammad Asadullah (35), while the arrested persons were identified as Usha Chandra Roy (30) and Mustakin Mahammad (32). According to sources, all three were residents of Peer Ganj in Thakurgaon district of Bangladesh.

Sources said the three Bangladeshi nationals allegedly tried to cross the barbed-wire fencing and enter Indian territory. BSF personnel reportedly asked them to surrender. While two of them complied, Asadullah allegedly attempted to flee. BSF personnel subsequently opened fire, and he sustained a gunshot injury.

He was immediately taken to Kaliyaganj State General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His body was later sent to Raiganj Government Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.

A senior police officer of Kaliyaganj police station said the two arrested persons were handed over to police by the BSF and produced before a court on Sunday. Further investigation into the incident is underway.

Meanwhile, the man who was arrested from Siliguri, has been identified as Sudev Roy. Indian Aadhaar and Voter ID cards and a passport, along with a Bangladeshi identity card and a Bangladeshi passport, were seized from his possession.

According to sources, Roy is a resident of Bangladesh. A few years ago, he came to India and started staying in Siliguri. He also built a four-storey building in the Porajhar area using forged Indian documents. Sources said he had also cast his vote in the recent Assembly election.

Roy has a wife and a child in Bangladesh. He frequently visited Bangladesh using the documents. However, this time, he was caught at the immigration check post in Fulbari while trying to enter Bangladesh from India to bring his wife and child to India. He has been taken into police remand for four days for further investigation.
