India, April 16 -- A grand cultural programme was organised at the Delhi Secretariat on Wednesday to mark Bangla Diwas and Poila Baisakh, the Bengali New Year. Minister for Art, Culture and Languages Kapil Mishra extended greetings on behalf of the Delhi Government and highlighted Bengal's rich cultural and historical contributions to the nation. Addressing the gathering, Mishra said, "People of Bengal have made significant contributions to the development of the nation and Delhi," adding that the region has played a pivotal role in India's freedom movement and intellectual growth. He noted that Bengal has been a centre of cultural and nationalist awakening, stating, "Bengal has been a center of India's cultural and nationalist movement; credited with giving India its National Anthem and National Song."
