India, Aug. 14 -- Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda is set to launch the central government's flagship health insurance scheme Ayushman Bharat in the state. Services under the scheme will begin for beneficiaries on the same day. Nadda will attend the Ayushman Bharat programme at the Netaji Indoor Stadium on August 16. Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will also attend the event. The BJP government in the state earlier announced that they will observe 'Ayushman Divas' on August 16. Adhikari had announced that August 16 would henceforth be observed as 'Ayushman Divas' to commemorate the Centre's flagship health insurance scheme, replacing the previous Trinamool Congress government's 'Khela Hobey Divas'. Private hospitals across Kolkata are also ready to handle a surge in patients with two new state health insurance schemes ~ Ayushman Bharat and Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana (MMSBY) getting flagged off on Sunday. Special teams have been formed, spaces earmarked and wards identified for the patient surge in private hospitals. Nadda's visit assumes significance as it comes days before the BJP government in Bengal will celebrate the completion of 100 days in office.
