Kolkata, Aug. 31 -- Calcutta High Court has given the West Bengal government five weeks to place on record details of the steps taken to secure CCTV footage relevant to an FIR against Aroop Biswas.
The direction came after Biswas' counsel claimed that an earlier order for preservation of the footage had not been acted upon. The footage relates to allegations of an egg attack and heckling involving Biswas.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya's bench had on July 8 directed that the CCTV footage be preserved. During Monday's hearing, the counsel referred to orders of the Alipore Chief Judicial Magistrate to contend that the direction remained unimplemented.
Advocate General Surajit Nath Mitra, appearing for the state, told the court that the investigating agency was taking steps to preserve the footage concerning the alleged incident.
The court said preservation of the footage appeared, prima facie, necessary for investigating the FIR.
