Kolkata, Aug. 28 -- The Supreme Court will on Monday hear the plea of Sumit Roy, personal assistant to TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, challenging the Calcutta High Court's refusal to grant him anticipatory bail in the alleged Salboni government land-grabbing case.
The court is scheduled to take up Roy's appeal on August 31. The apex court has already protected Roy from arrest. West Bengal Police had submitted investigation material in a sealed cover and sought his custodial interrogation, alleging non-cooperation.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta sought withdrawal of the protection, while Roy's counsel said he had appeared before investigators and invoked his constitutional right against self-incrimination.
The High Court had rejected Roy's pre-arrest bail plea after the prosecution alleged that forged title documents were used to facilitate transfers of government land.
