Chandigarh, Oct. 28 -- Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the "Aazadi ki Pehli Ladai ka Shaheed Smarak" in Ambala Cantonment on November 5, Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij said.
The inauguration will be followed by a large workers' rally at Gandhi Ground in Ambala Cantonment. Vij urged people to attend the rally in large numbers, noting that the event would honour the martyrs through the inauguration of a national-level memorial.
The memorial will open to the public from November 6. Vij said the government has also directed that students from schools and educational institutions across Haryana be taken to the memorial to familiarise them with the freedom struggle.
He said the initiative would help young people learn that the 1857 freedom struggle began in Ambala before Meerut.
