New Delhi, Oct. 17 -- Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has raised 12 questions on the banking system, questioning the closure of bank branches and ATMs, deductions from customers' accounts, cyber fraud and difficulties in accessing loans. In a post on social media platform X titled '12 Years, 12 Questions', the SP chief questioned the BJP's claims about strengthening the banking system and sought answers on issues affecting ordinary customers, farmers, students and small traders.

"If banks have become stronger, why are they being sold and why is money being deducted from the accounts of poor people?" he asked, also raising concerns over customers being harassed in the name of Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance.

Yadav questioned the closure of bank branches and ATMs in rural areas, saying it forced people to travel long distances to access cash. He also asked why farmers, students and small traders continued to face difficulties in securing loans without middlemen or guarantors. The SP chief highlighted the difficulties faced by victims of cyber fraud in recovering their money, alleging that they were forced to make repeated visits to banks and police stations.

He also questioned the interest rates charged on home and education loans. He raised concerns over delays in refunds following failed digital transactions, saying customers often had to wait several days for their money to be credited back.
