Noida, Oct. 4 -- A 460-metre air-conditioned skywalk connecting the Sector 52 Delhi Metro station with the Sector 51 Noida Metro station was opened to commuters on Sunday, providing a covered pedestrian link between the two metro networks. Built at a cost of around Rs 36.9 crore, the facility is expected to benefit nearly 75,000 to 80,000 metro passengers. It was inaugurated by MLA Pankaj Singh.
The 6.5-metre-wide skywalk has been designed to make transfers between the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) more convenient and safer. It has 10 travelators to facilitate movement, particularly for passengers carrying luggage or travelling during peak hours.
Officials said the facility has five fire exits, 36 CCTV cameras and a 500 KVA diesel generator for power backup.
Noida Authority additional chief executive officer Vandana Tripathi and other senior officials, besides representatives of NMRC and DMRC, attended the inauguration.
Tripathi said the skywalk would ease pedestrian movement and provide commuters with a safer, weather-protected route between the two stations, particularly during extreme weather and busy travel hours.
