India, Aug. 7 -- Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, the Delhi Police has stepped up security checks across the national capital, conducting extensive verification of hotels, guest houses, tenant records, second-hand car dealerships and parking lots in the wake of the December 2025 blast near the Red Fort that left 13 people dead. Senior police officials said personnel had been instructed to intensify surveillance amid heightened security concerns, particularly in areas such as Old Delhi, Jamia Nagar and Nizamuddin, following the terror attack near the Red Fort last year. Intelligence agencies are also conducting door-to-door surveys in areas with large student and professional populations, including neighbourhoods around universities and colleges. The exercise is aimed at verifying whether tenants have submitted valid identity proofs and other mandatory documents.
