Kolkata, Sept. 20 -- After facing social media trolling over a parking issue, state Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul once again reiterated the state government's tough stand against illegal parking and encroachment of roads.
Someone on social media trolled the minister, asking whether they would keep their cycles parked on their heads if they were not allowed to park them in the marketplace. The minister stated that there are parking areas outside markets and that the cycles should be kept there. "Footpaths will remain like footpaths. There will be no parking or illegal shops there," the minister said. Paul has repeatedly given instructions to clear illegal encroachment.
The minister said: "People are keeping bicycles inside the market. My point is, don't keep bicycles where there are shops. They are trolling me and saying whether they would keep the bicycles on their heads? How can people say this? They should keep bicycles in the parking areas outside the market.
The minister's clear statement is that no bicycle, motorbike or car can be parked anywhere. And she has already given a clear message about parking. She also instructed that those who will not listen will be fined.
During a recent inspection, the minister asked why bicycles were kept in the marketplace. "Should I deposit it at the police station? Is this the place to keep bicycles in the market? What do you think, you can do whatever you want? It's not like what was going on during the previous government." This video of Paul went viral on social media.
