Cooch Behar, Sept. 8 -- The Cooch Behar district BJP leadership has taken organisational action against several party leaders and office-bearers, accusing them of anti-party activities, violation of party discipline and allegedly threatening party workers. A notice to this effect was issued by district BJP president Abhijit Barman on Monday evening.

According to the notice, Sitai No. 6 Mandal president Dhananjay Barman, Natabari No. 5 Mandal president Manoranjan Barman and Sitalkuchi No. 5 Mandal president Prasanjit Sarkar have been removed from their respective posts.

District invitee member Pankaj Saha, Sitai No. 2 Mandal secretary Dipankar Roy and Sitai No. 6 Mandal secretary Dinanath Barman have also been removed from their organisational posts. In addition, disciplinary action has been taken against district committee member Tarnikant Barman. Party sources said the leaders faced multiple allegations, including activities against the party's interests, breach of organisational discipline and allegedly threatening party workers. The district leadership decided to take action after considering the complaints against them.

The move, involving several leaders and office-bearers at the same time, has triggered discussion within the district BJP.

The action comes days after tension erupted between two BJP groups over the formation of the board of Dinhata's Shalmara Gram Panchayat.

District BJP president Abhijit Barman said: "No one is above the party. There were complaints against them."
